Dental school has officially started after a week of orientation. It is now Wednesday and I have completed three days. To summarize: it has mostly been biochemistry, physiology, and dental anatomy with a little problem based learning thrown in the mix. Biochem and physiology are a little bit of a review right now, but I'm not complaining! In anatomy we have gotten our materials and instruments checked. We are ready to wax on Friday! Out of all the classes anatomy is the one I am most excited for. We actually get to do something dentistry related. We start off making replicas of teeth using wax and various instruments. They call it "waxing." I am very pleased with everything that I have learned in Dr. Parker's office. I think I am a step ahead of most of the students in my class. Tonight there is a freshman/sophomore picnic at City Park starting at 6. I am planning on biking there to meet my "big brother." He is a sophomore that is supposed to answer any question I have.

Confused about waxing? It consists of building up a tooth that has the correct anatomy out of wax. You heat up the wax and place it the way you want in between the adjacent teeth. This is sort of what it looks like:
