Lately, I've been busy with school and having a little bit of fun on the side. Classes have started to pick up a little since the start of the school year. They still aren't overwhelming. I've been able to do activities outside school even with all the studying and work at the dental college.

In classes I have had multiple tests and quizzes that have gone well. I had my first waxing competency on Monday. I think I did alright. It wasn't the best tooth in the world, but pretty good for the first time. Some of my classmates broke their tooth just before they turned it in, so I knew it could have been a lot worse. They instructors are fairly picky when they grade the teeth. I don't think anyone gets that great of a grade. Besides waxing all the science classes have been pretty simple. It takes a little time, but my undergrad biochemistry and physiology have helped me out immensely.

When I'm not studying or in class, I've been able to hang out with some of my classmates. We played basketball on Wednesday. A lot of people showed up, so it was a fun time. On Sundays I've been playing flag football in a league with some friends. We are 2-0 going into the bye week this Sunday.

Other than all of this I am also running for class president of the first year dental students. I have been able to meet a lot of people in my class and pretty much know most of them. I figured I would be able to communicate well with all of them and not let them down. I hope I win, but if I don't, it will save me from doing lots of work!

This weekend I am going to Champaign, IL to watch the Hawkeyes play the Fighting Illini in football. I have never been to an away game before so it will be fun to experience a different stadium. The Illini aren't too good, so the Hawks should win and become 4-0 going into the big showdown with Ohio St. next week in Iowa City. Everyone will be fired up for sure!
