They weren't joking when they called it Big Sky Country. Well, if you were wondering, Evan and I made it to Bozeman, Montana last night. We are staying with Evan's friends from high school/undergrad. Went to bed sort of late last night. We sat around and talked a bit with everyone here. This morning we woke up fairly early and made our way to the Bangtail Ridge/Grassy Mountain Loop. We rode 23 miles of single track. The original climb lasted about 1 and a half hours. It was quite a rude awakening considering the steep nature of the climb and the fact we went from about sea level to 4300 feet in Bozeman in one day of traveling yesterday.
If the picture was clearer, you could actually see Bozeman in the fuzzy area in the background. The trailhead was only 15 minutes away from where we were staying in town! My favorite part about the ride was the fact that there were no cars or roads other than fire roads around us. Climbing to that height all on your own is such an awesome feeling. After the original climb, we rode some switchbacks down the mountain. We also hit a little bit of snow on the way down!
We had about a 10 mile ride back to our car on a paved road after the trail ended. All in all it was an amazing ride! Not sure what we will do tonight. I think we are grilling out at one of Evan's friend's place. We will most likely do some riding tomorrow at some shorter trails. Also, here is some crooked video I took during the ride:
